The curse of Esta Noche

In the latest episode of Looking, a storm’s a brewin’ as clouds settle over two the boys’ romances. Both Patrick and Dom find themselves nearing the limits of control over their respective relationships with Kevin and Lynn. And a trip out to the now defunct Esta Noche ends poorly for both of them. Why didn’t anyone tell them that “San Francisco is so over?”
For Patrick, the journey leading up to that night starts where we last saw him: enjoying a blissful weekend of playing house with Kevin that was ruined by a call Kevin made to Jon. The painful reality was that he was always thinking about his boyfriend, even if Patrick’s newfound topping skills were getting rave reviews.
And while it’s easy to say, “let’s pull a Graduate and run away together,” it’s all in Kevin’s hands to figure out what’s next.
So until then, Patrick’s journey takes him to lunch, well not lunch because I just ate a big breakfast slash yogurt friend date with Richie, who after the awkward small talk dance (“I’m seeing someone.” “I’m actually seeing someone too. It’s a little weird.”), reminds Patrick that once again he’s a “homewrecker.”
Oh, I think he remembers.
Later, all of Patrick’s panic about his relationship with Kevin is exasperated when he catches sight of him with Jon, leading Patrick throw out an ultimatum and exact some control over his own emotions. It’s either Jon or Patrick — and he wants his picket fence or he’s out.
Sadly, at the cursed Esta Noche, the results are in — and it should come as no surprise who Kevin chooses:
And Dom’s journey is not all too different from Patrick’s, but it does involve a lot more sex. Making a surprise visit at Lynn’s, Dom is greeted by his Fog teammate, Matthew, who is clearly there for one thing.
Unsure what to do, Dom swallows his pride — or more accurately, anger — and engages his “daddy” mode.
And let’s just get all of the ass GIFs out of the way now.
While the threesome — both topped Matthew, btw — went off without a hitch (and sadly off screen), Dom wasn’t satisfied with the negotiations he found himself making with Lynn. And that’s where things get tricky. Dom wants more from Lynn and Lynn, again, says he’s not willing to give anything else.
Is anyone else getting a weird Lucille Bluth vibe from Lynn these days?
Which leads us to Esta Noche, where all the shit in San Francisco goes down — hey it is “so over” — and it’s there Dom confides in Doris that his dreams of peri peri chicken and resting in Lynn’s coop may be over — or at least in need of a Kickstarter. (With incentives offered by Doris.)
For once Agustín found his path taking a more positive direction. After being force to seek refuge in Eddie’s home while Patrick played house, Agustín bonded with the bear and the idea of doing something selfless.
A fieldtrip to the LGBT homeless shelter where Eddie works, Agustin was tickled by the idea of working with the kids and having to identify himself as a man.
While Eddie declared he didn’t run a homeless shelter, he only worked on one, by the end of the episode he provided Agustín with a bed for the night and a new job. And the two found a potential romantic bond in the process.
What’s unclear is what’s next for these two? Is Agustín good enough to stay sober enough to pursue a life with the bears? Or is this a way to escape from the failures in his own life?
But the real question is when both Dom and Patrick will get a clue. These two are in very similar situations. Their relationships with Kevin and Lynn, respectively, are limited by the fact that neither one is willing to give the boys more of what they want. It’s great both Dom and Patrick are taking control, but at what cost?
