On the journey to Eagle Scout, discrimination gets in the way. “Clipped Wings” tells the stories of those most affected by the Boy Scouts’ ban on gay members.
Made by Coleman Andersen, Duncan Gowdy and Leo Pfeifer. All three filmmakers were 16 years old during production of the film.
“Clipped Wings”, a short documentary about the discriminatory policies of the BSA, tells the story of Liam Easton-Calabria, a candidate for the rank of Eagle who came out before the BSA allowed gay scouts. The film also follows Geoff McGrath, a scoutmaster who was ejected from scouting because of his sexuality.
The film was made by award-winning Ballard High School film students Leo Pfeifer, Duncan Gowdy and Coleman Andersen. Between them, their films have been honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and various regional, national and international festivals including the Seattle International Film Festival and the Chicago International Film Festival.
