PRAXIS peels away the layers of narrative even as Brian, the film's axis, struggles to create his true self. Brian, a writer on the verge of a breakdown, is aided by Joe and an Elusive Woman as he sifts through the fragments of his persona to discover his true core. Fighting against fear and the indifference of society - aptly symbolized by the medical establishment - his quest reflects the classical mythos of Proteus and the human search for meaning in the universe.

This film is definitely not for everyone…but if you are willing to invest a little thought and effort, you will get a big payoff here. It’s a morality play centering on cause and effect. It incorporates real life situations, cosmic theory, scientific fact and a bit of metaphysical belief (seemingly held by the writer director). Although this has what might be to some seen as homoerotic imagery, this is definitely NOT a “gay film”…especially when you find out what it all meant at the end. The acting is “experimental” and varies from character to character, but overall it is a nice work of non-linear storytelling with some very thought-provoking imagery…whether you subscribe to it or not. I think the negative reviewers were expecting something a bit more salacious or mind-numbing…which this is definitely not.
