This is a quiet, honest story about how attraction can be shared through a handwritten note or a look when words just aren't enough.
Running Without Sound (2004)

If you like those short films that don't need a lot of noise to get the point across, you should check out Running Without Sound. It is a really simple but effective story about Sean, a deaf guy on a high school cross country team. The vibe is very grounded, focusing on the small moments like the teasing in the locker room and how a teammate named Derek decides to step in and end it.
Thomas J. Bellezza is great as Sean. Since his character is deaf, he has to do all the heavy lifting with his eyes and body language, and it feels very natural. Christopher J. Cullen, who plays Derek, is also very charming. The scenes where they are just sitting in Derek’s apartment, passing notes back and forth, are probably the best part. It captures that awkward, nervous energy of trying to talk to someone you like when you are not sure if they feel the same way.
It is not some big, flashy drama - it is just a snapshot of two guys trying to figure out if there is something more than just being teammates. The way Sean eventually shows his attraction through a simple look is really well done. It is a sweet, silent look at how sometimes you don't need a single word to know exactly what is going on between two people. The actors are sympathetic and they make the whole situation feel real without trying too hard.
