The film portrays the lives of two gay men and one transgender woman who left their home countries because of discrimination and persecution. Now in South Africa they applied for refugee status on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
In Beyond Repair, a gay seventeen year-old named Simon is forced to live with his brother Falkner, who runs a cult-like group that tries to force men into living heterosexual lives. Falkner uses violence and threats but also his love for his younger brother to manipulate Simon into rejecting his identity and becoming like him.
A young man drafted into South Africa’s military, but he knows he is different and must keep himself hidden. However, when another recruit develops an intimate relationship with them, they are now both in danger.
