Jamie, a quiet loner in his early twenties, is clumsily looking for his first relationship. Shy and lacking self-confidence, his past experiences with men have yielded disappointing results. One Sunday, he meets up with Ben after chatting with him on a dating app. As they spend the afternoon together, Jamie begins to wonder if he has finally met his match.

JAMIE was one of five short films selected by BFI Flare and the British Council for broadcast on BFI Player and the British Council’s Youtube channel as part of the 2017 #FiveFilms4Freedom ‘Love is a Human Right’ Campaign.

Garnering over a million views on various platforms since, JAMIE has screened at over 50 festivals worldwide and was winner of the ALTERNATIVE SPIRIT (LGBTQ+) AWARD at the 2016 Rhode Island International Film Festival. JAMIE is distributed by Peccadillo Films on their Boys On Film Label.

Director’s Statement
‘Jamie’ is intended as a simple portrait, telling the story of an emotional awakening that takes place in ordinary circumstances, but is nonetheless life-changing and formative for its protagonist. The film reveals the private emotional struggle of its shy and introverted central character and was conceived as a quiet drama, uncovering the major conflicts in Jamie’s life as he unexpectedly discloses them to a stranger over the course of an afternoon. The dialogue was written to be intimate, personal and touching. I intended to make ‘Jamie’ a conversational film; one in which the naturalistic tone and style would imply a kind of ‘realism’ in the encounter between the two characters. I wanted to go on a journey with a character that struggles and falters in his search for love, not because of traditional external obstacles, but because of the internal ones that are working their way to the surface. ‘Jamie’ is about opening up with both another person and with oneself.
