Sense8 (2015–2018)
The plot revolves around eight strangers from different parts of the world who suddenly become mentally and emotionally linked. The show aims to explore subjects that its writers feel have historically not been emphasized in most science fiction shows to date, such as politics, identity, sexuality, gender and religion.
The Wachowskis directed most of the first season, with the remainder being divided between their previous collaborators Tom Tykwer, James McTeigue, and Dan Glass. The series is the first produced under the banner of Straczynski’s Studio JMS. On August 8, 2015, Netflix announced that it had renewed the show for a second season.
Sense8 tells the story of eight strangers: Will (Smith), Riley (Middleton), Capheus (Ameen), Sun (Bae), Lito (Silvestre), Kala (Desai), Wolfgang (Riemelt) and Nomi (Clayton), each from a different culture and part of the world. While living their everyday lives, they suddenly have a vision of the violent death of a woman called Angelica (Hannah) and discover that they are ‘sensates’: otherwise normal humans who are mentally and emotionally connected and who are able to communicate, sense and use each other’s knowledge, language and skills. While trying to live their lives and figure out how and why this connection has happened and what it means, they are aided by another sensate, Jonas (Andrews), who is trying to protect them from “Whispers” (Mann), another sensate, who is similarly empowered and is hunting them down by tapping into their psychic link.

Sense8 tells the story of eight strangers: Will (Smith), Riley (Middleton), Capheus (Ameen), Sun (Bae), Lito (Silvestre), Kala (Desai), Wolfgang (Riemelt), and Nomi (Clayton). Each individual is from a different culture and part of the world. In the aftermath of a tragic death they all experience through what they perceive as dreams or visions, they suddenly find themselves growing mentally and emotionally connected. While trying to figure how and why this connection happened and what it means, a mysterious man named Jonas tries to help the eight. Meanwhile, another stranger called Whispers attempts to hunt them down, using the same sensate power to gain full access to a sensate’s mind (thoughts/sight) after looking into their eyes. Each episode reflects the views of the characters interacting with each other while delving deeper into their backgrounds and what sets them apart and brings them together with the others.

A group of strangers all experience a rebirth which inexplicably links them intellectually emotionally and sensually we are taken along their journey to discover exactly what they are going through witnessing their interactions from face to face conversations from opposite sides of the world without the use of any devices, using each other’s skills and abilities, learning about each other, all the while being pursued by a secretive group that wish to lobotomise them in order to prevent a evolutionary path they do not wish to become humanity’s future.
