“TEDDY BEAR” is a 2022 short film directed by Konstantinos Menelaou, with a runtime of three minutes. The film offers an intimate glimpse into the life of a man who has relocated back to Athens for a new job, leaving behind his former life and lover in London. Through a series of candid and heartfelt messages—likely emails or letters—he reaches out to the lover he left behind, revealing his inner thoughts and emotions.
The man’s monologue touches on everyday occurrences, such as mishaps with his keyboard and laundry, which serve to highlight his feelings of isolation and the small challenges of adjusting to a new environment. He reminisces about shared experiences, like missing the company of his former partner while exploring ruins in Greece. His words convey a deep sense of longing and the bittersweet nature of moving on.
He reflects on personal changes he’s undergoing, mentioning his new wardrobe and lifestyle choices, perhaps as an attempt to redefine himself. Despite these changes, he can’t help but recall affectionate memories, like complimenting his ex-lover’s legs and referencing the “teddy bear,” a symbol of comfort and their past intimacy.
