"I really thought you were going to be the one person that wanted me for me." This line perfectly sums up the heartbreak of realizing you're being treated as a commodity rather than a person.
The exhausting reality of the "Findrr" loop
I just finished watching You Free Tonight? and it honestly left me with that heavy feeling in my chest. We follow Archie, who is just 16 and trying to figure himself out through a dating app. It starts off as most things do—looking for a bit of excitement or a solution to feeling lonely—but it quickly turns into this repetitive, toxic cycle of meeting guys who only want one thing. Jake Doyle does a great job playing Archie; you can really see the exhaustion in his eyes as the film goes on.
More than just a swipe
The film captures that specific brand of modern loneliness so well. It’s not just about the dates; it’s about the emotional toll that comes with being treated like a disposable profile on an app. I liked that the filmmakers didn't try to make it look glamorous. The atmosphere feels quite raw and honest, especially the scenes where Archie realizes he's just another face in the crowd for these men. Ata Dirilgen and David McGouran play their roles perfectly, bringing that slightly detached energy you often find in hookup culture.
A moment of truth
There’s a scene towards the end that really sticks with you—that moment of total vulnerability where you just want to be seen for who you are, not what you can offer. The supporting cast, like Tammy Heath as Martha, adds a nice layer of groundedness to the story. It’s a short watch from the Bournemouth Film School, but it packs a punch because it feels so relatable to anyone who has ever felt disillusioned by the "swipe right" culture.
