So, I stumbled upon this short called "Reverie" and honestly, it is a really nice surprise. It is basically just two guys, Gregory and Alex, hanging out and talking, but it gets deep pretty fast. No flashy effects or crazy plot twists, just a very real conversation about life and how we end up where we are.
The chemistry and that cozy feeling
I have to say, the guys are really good. Brent Thorpe plays Gregory, an older man who has been through a lot since the 70s, and you can really see the history in his face. He has this weary but kind energy that makes you want to keep listening. Then there is Alex, played by Patrick Phillips. He is younger, but he has got this vibe of someone who is tired of the shallow side of the dating world. The chemistry between them is what makes the whole thing work - it does not feel forced, just two people finally being honest with each other.
The atmosphere is very cozy and intimate. It feels like you are sitting right there with them, listening to secrets you probably should not be hearing. It is a quiet film, but it hits hard because the characters feel like people you might actually know.
Why you should watch it
If you have ever felt like you are just playing a part to fit in, you will definitely get this film. It is not a long watch, but it leaves you thinking about the masks we all wear. The ending is sweet and has a bit of a dreamlike quality to it, which explains the title perfectly. Definitely worth twenty minutes of your time if you want something with a bit more heart than your usual YouTube find.
